Men's Basketball Preview: Delta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team will close out the 2017-18 season on Thursday night when they travel to face rival Delta State. Tip-off in Sillers Coliseum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
 

THE SERIES

This will be the 95th all-time meeting between the two Magnolia State schools with DSU holding a 56-37-1 edge in the series. The teams met back on January 27th with the Statesmen grabbing a 76-64 victory. Sophomore Brandon Boston (14.2 ppg) led MC with 25 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
 

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE (9-15, 6-13 GSC)

The Choctaws, led by 14th-year head coach Don Lofton, have struggled through the latter part of the season, and they will look to snap a seven-game losing streak in the finale. It will be the final game in the "Blue and Gold" for four seniors (Ricky Breakfield, Xavion Dillon, Otis Harvey and Antonio Johnson). Dillon (13.1 ppg) scored a season-high 24 points with nine rebounds in MC's last game against UAH.

Junior Donovan Ham (14.8 ppg) is the team's leading scorer and ranks 2nd on the squad in rebounds (5.9) and assists (2.7) per game. Boston leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per contest and is shooting a team-best 55% from the floor this season.

Johnson (10.5 ppg) will finish up his stellar four-year career on Thursday night ranking 2nd in school history in three-pointers made (151) and three-point attempts (390). He also ranks 7th in career assists (232) and free throw percentage (.833).
 

DELTA STATE (12-15, 10-9 GSC)

The Statesmen, led by 6th-year head coach Jim Boone, has already clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament and could go in anywhere from the #5 to #7 seed. They dropped their last contest, falling at home to Lee on Saturday by a score of 52-49.

Senior PJ Davis (16.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg) is the team-leader in scoring and rebounding and also has a team-high 40 blocked shots. Junior Brett Warner (15.4 ppg) is also scoring in double-figures and is shooting 81% from the free throw line. Junior Armon Benford (7.2 ppg) leads the team with 125 assists and 48 steals.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
