ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team knocked off host-team Ouachita Baptist 7-2 on day one of the Ouachita Baptist Invitational on Thursday evening. With the win, the Choctaws improve to 2-0 on their young season.
MC took all three doubles matches to grab early momentum and establish a comfortable 3-0 lead in the match.
Lucio Menezes and
Max Nilges improved to a team-best 2-0 as a duo with their 8-6 win over Braydon Montgomery and Carlos Solorzano at the doubles number two spot.
Marcos Rocca and
Joan Valy (9-7), and
Sanders Barrick and
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez (8-3) both improved to 1-1 as duos with their doubles victories.
In singles play, Valy (6-0, 6-3) and Nilges (7-5, 6-3) both downed their opponents in straight sets. Menezes (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) and Rocca (1-6, 6-1, 6-4) would both rally after dropping their first sets to win their singles matchups in three sets. Valy, Menezes and Rocca all improved to a team-best 2-0 in singles play with their wins on the evening.
The Choctaws will return to action on Friday, Feb. 16 when they take on Harding University in day two of the Ouachita Baptist Invitational. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
