CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season as it fell 76-64 to the University of Montevallo in the Gulf South Conference opener on Thursday, Nov. 29 inside A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Lauran Sheriff led the team with 20 points while
Moriah Hurst added 10 points in the loss.
Kirsten Thompson paced the Lady Choctaws on the glass with seven rebounds.

Nautika Philpot led Montevallo with 24 points in the game. Kourtnie Smith added 17 points with 16 coming from Aaliyah Rice. Smith also grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds.

Montevallo grabbed its first double-digit lead of the game with 7:01 left in the third quarter on a jumper from Rice.

- The scoring output marked a career-high for Sheriff and surpassed her previous best of 19 set against Southern University at New Orleans on Nov. 25 last season.
- Hurst recorded a season-high as she reset her best of seven set against LeMoyne-Owen earlier this season.
- UM outrebounded the Lady Choctaws 39-28. It marks the first time this season MC was out-rebounded this season. The 28 boards marked a season-low.
