ORLANDO – The Mississippi College volleyball team opened the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover falling in straight sets to Eckerd College at the Orlando Sports Center. MC moves to 7-19 on the season while EC improved to 10-11.
Shelby Grace Mays paced the Choctaws with seven kills while
Lexie Laurendine led the team with 10 assists.
Jill Brown added 13 digs while
Gwenyth Prenter posted four blocks in the defensive effort.

TURNING POINT
Eckerd went on a 7-1 run early in the second set to grab a 10-4 advantage. MC rallied to cut the lead to three points, 13-10, but couldn't overcome the early deficit as the Tritons claimed a 25-18 set win en route to a 2-0 match lead.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Mays last led the team in kills was Aug. 25 against Quincy at the Dr. Margaret Downing Invitational. She and Jamie Boros tied for the team lead with nine kills each in the match.
- Laurendine finished one dig shy of her fifth double-double of the season.
- Makenzie McLendon saw her first action of the season in the third set.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 as it faces Spring Hill College and Florida Institute of Technology. First serve against SHC is set for 9 a.m. with the final match of the Crossover against FIT is slated for 3:45 p.m. Both times are central.
