Women's Basketball Edged by UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 75-70 at A.E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday evening to the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action. MC moved to 5-8 on the season and 1-6 in the league while UAH improved to 9-4 and 3-3 in conference play.

KEY NOTES
Mississippi College was led in scoring by Kelley Allen with 18 points while Ieisha Lacey added 14 points. It marked the 26th time Allen has scored in double figures in her career and sixth this season. Lacey notched her 10th, career double-digit contest and eighth on the campaign. Allen also recorded a team-best seven rebounds.

MC posted a clip of 47.4 from the floor in the contest – the best mark in conference play this season and third best overall. UAH shot 47.2 percent from the field, including 54.5 from behind the arc.

The Lady Choctaws outscored UAH in the paint by 14 points (36-22), including 18 points in the third quarter. MC was also able to capitalize on Charger miscues with 20 points coming off 17 UAH turnovers.

MC posted 12 points off fast breaks while holding the Chargers to zero points in transition.

Loren Foster paced a trio of Chargers in double figures with 22 points. Katie Speegle added 19 points for UAH with 12 coming from Morgan Tipton.

TURNING POINT
Speegle and Foster each knocked down a 3-pointer to spur a 9-3 run late in the fourth quarter to help record the road win. The scoring spurt answered a 7-0 run by MC to grab a three-point advantage midway through the final period.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a contest that featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes, MC trailed 57-56 after three quarters of play despite outscoring the Chargers 24-20 in the third stanza. UAH took a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but saw its advantage disappear behind a 3-pointer from Lacey and a layup from Allen. The lead was the first for MC since the one-minute mark in the third quarter. Lauran Sheriff knocked down a jumper to expand the lead to 65-62 with 6:46 left to play and cap a 7-0 run for the Navy and Gold.

Following the 9-3 run, MC rallied to clip the narrow lead to a one point on a pair of free throws from Zariah Matthews, but a layup from Speegle and a pair of shots from the charity strip from Foster iced the contest for the Chargers.
