ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 83-63 on Monday, Jan. 22 at Shorter University in Gulf South Conference action. MC falls to 6-12 on the season and 2-10 in the league. Shorter improved to 5-12 and 3-8 in the conference.

Turning Point
After Mississippi College pulled within 49-45 with under five minutes left in the third quarter, Shorter went on a 7-0 run to grab a 56-45 advantage – its first double-digit lead of the game.

- A pair of Lady Choctaws scored in double figures led by Kelley Allen with 16 points. Lauran Sheriff added 11 points.
- Emery Wilson led MC with eight rebounds.

Mississippi College opened with the first four points of the contest, but witnessed Shorter go on a 12-2 run to grab a 12-6 lead at the six minute mark of the opening quarter. The Lady Hawks extended their lead to 20-10 on a 3-pointer from Tatum Ragsdale with four minutes left in the first quarter. MC responded and clipped the deficit to 24-19 at the end of the period behind a 9-4 spurt.

MC kept applying pressure to the Blue and White and knotted the contest at 24-all with 8:31 left before the half on a
Lauran Sheriff jumper. The Lady Choctaws regained the lead at 27-26 with 5:11 left in the second quarter on a 3-pointer from
Olivia Mabry. The advantage was the first for the Navy and Gold since the 8:37 mark in the opening quarter. An Allen layup expanded the lead to 29-26, but back-to-back baskets put SU up 30-29 with two minutes left to play before the intermission. Shorter held a 34-31 lead at the half.

Mississippi College held a 35-34 advantage, but an 11-3 run placed the Lady Hawks up seven points with 6:39 left in the third quarter. The Lady Choctaws pulled within 49-45 on a jumper from
Kaitlyn Thompson, but the Blue and White extended its lead with a 7-0 run to hold a 56-45 with just over a two minutes to play in the third quarter. SU maintained the 11-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Shorter extended its lead in the fourth quarter as it grabbed a 73-53 lead with 6:34 left in the game. The Lady Hawks recorded their largest lead of the game, 79-53, more than a minute later on the backend of a pair of Jackie Hudson free throws.
