CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 58-38 against in-state foe Delta State on Saturday, Jan. 27. MC moved to 6-13 on the season and 2-11 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State improved to 8-11 and 5-8 in the league.

Mississippi College pulled within 31-26 with 3:09 left in the third quarter on a jumper from
Emery Wilson, but Delta State's Alondrea Rush recorded five points on back-to-back baskets to extend the lead to 36-26 with 2:16 left in the third period.

Inside the Box Score
- Freshman Lauran Sheriff led Mississippi College with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the setback. Sheriff added three blocks.
- Sophomore Zariah Matthews finished second on the team in scoring with eight points.
- A trio of Lady Statesmen scored in double figures led by Rush with 21 points. Takisha Jordan added 14 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Alexis Ross finished the group with 13 points.
- Mississippi College shot 28.3 percent from the field in the contest while DSU connected on 35.5 percent. The Lady Statesmen were also 9 of 11 from the charity stripe for 81.8 percent. MC posted a clip of 73.3 from the free throw line (11-for-15).

- MC led 6-2 with 6:01 left in the opening quarter, but DSU used a 7-3 run to close out the quarter and force a 9-all tie through the first 10 minutes of action.
- Delta State opened the second quarter scoring eight of the first 11 points as it claimed a 17-12 lead.
- MC pulled back within three points with 3:13 left before the half on a pair of free throws from Matthews, but the Green and White closed the first half on an 8-2 run to take a 25-16 lead in at the intermission.
- MC kept the deficit within single digits through most of the third quarter, but Delta State claimed a double-digit lead with 2:16 left in the quarter on a jumper from Rush, giving DSU a 36-26 advantage.
- Delta State grabbed a 52-36 lead with just under six minutes to play.
- The Lady Statesmen claimed its largest lead of the contest with under two minutes to play at 56-36.
Noteworthy
- Sheriff's effort was her third double-double of the season which is second on the team. Senior Kelley Allen leads the squad with five double-doubles this season.
- Sheriff's 10-rebound effort marks the third of the season for the Jackson, Miss., native and her first since Jan. 15, 2018 against Montevallo.
- Sheriff's three blocks is her second game this season with three or more blocks. She recorded a season-high four on Dec. 30, 2017 against Tougaloo.
- The last time Mississippi College scored 40 or fewer points was Jan. 16, 2016 at Delta State.
- DSU's Jordan recorded her first, collegiate double-double.
