Women's Hoops Topped by No. 21 North Alabama

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 106-71 to 21st-ranked University of North Alabama in Gulf South Conference action. MC moves to 5-7 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. UNA remains unblemished as 12-0 and 5-0 in the GSC.

KEY NOTES
Three Lady Choctaws scored in double figures led by Kelley Allen with 16 points and nine rebounds. Ieisha Lacey 12 points followed by Lauran Sheriff with 10 points. Sheriff tied a season-high with four steals in the game.
 
North Alabama's Emma Wallen scored a game-best 34 points followed by Brittany Panetti with 22 points. Ansley Eubank added 20 points for the Lions. Ivy Wallen finished a point shy of a double-double with 20 assists and nine points.
 
UNA outscored the Navy and Gold 52-34 in the paint.
 
TURNING POINT
Panetti gave UNA a 42-31 lead with 2:30 left before the intermission. The bucket extended the advantage back to double figures and sparked an 8-2 run to close out the half after MC had clipped the deficit to single digits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Alabama held a 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter after it opened the first 10 minutes of action with a 9-0 run. MC rallied and pulled within seven points midway through the quarter on a pair of free throws from Zan Ratcliffe. However, the Purple and Gold regained their double-digit lead, 36-23, with 4:43 left before the break and took a 50-34 lead into the intermission.
 
The Lions opened the second half of play much like the first 20 minutes as they went on an 11-1 run to start the third quarter. UNA held a 31-point lead late in the third stanza before grabbing its largest lead of the game at 106-65 on a trey from Darby Madden with 3:07 left to play.

Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 4 as it hosts the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
