CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell 3-1 at William Carey on Thursday, Sept. 7. MC moved to 2-4 on the season while the Crusaders improved to 7-2 on the campaign.

Shelby Grace Mays recorded her fourth, career double-double with 10 kills and a team-best 10 digs. The junior from Arab, Ala., has three double-doubles this season.

Kayana Mitchell led the team with 14 kills in the match.
Sydney Chandler and
Amanda Torres directed the offensive attack as the duo combined for 38 of the squad's 40 assists. Chandler paced the squad with 25 assists while Torres dished out 13.

Julia Martin joined Mays with a team-best 10 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

MC and William Carey fought back and forth in the first set and stood tied at 22-all, following a Mitchell kill. The Lady Choctaws gained the advantage at 23-22 on an attack error by WCU. The Crusaders, however, rattled off the next three points to claim the set 25-23.

The Navy and Gold held an 18-17 lead in the second set, but WCU picked up the next three points to take a 20-18. Mays posted one of her 10 kills in the match to pull MC within a point, but the Lady Choctaws couldn't overcome the deficit despite pulling to within a point on three different occasions.

MC jumped out early in the third set as it grabbed a four-point advantage at 10-6. The Lady Choctaws maintained the lead until WCU took its first lead of the set at 19-18. MC regained the lead at 22-21 on a Crusader miscue. The Navy and Gold closed out the set with the next three points, including a service ace by Mays to clinch the set.

WCU took control of the final set early as it raced out to a 16-8 advantage en route to a 25-14 win.
