HOW IT HAPPENED

MC and William Carey fought back and forth in the first set and stood tied at 22-all, following a Mitchell kill. The Lady Choctaws gained the advantage at 23-22 on an attack error by WCU. The Crusaders, however, rattled off the next three points to claim the set 25-23.

The Navy and Gold held an 18-17 lead in the second set, but WCU picked up the next three points to take a 20-18. Mays posted one of her 10 kills in the match to pull MC within a point, but the Lady Choctaws couldn't overcome the deficit despite pulling to within a point on three different occasions.

MC jumped out early in the third set as it grabbed a four-point advantage at 10-6. The Lady Choctaws maintained the lead until WCU took its first lead of the set at 19-18. MC regained the lead at 22-21 on a Crusader miscue. The Navy and Gold closed out the set with the next three points, including a service ace by Mays to clinch the set.

WCU took control of the final set early as it raced out to a 16-8 advantage en route to a 25-14 win.
