HOW IT HAPPENED
MC fell behind 15-7 in the opening set, but the Lady Choctaws rallied behind a 9-3 run to clip the deficit to 18-16. However, Shorter rallied to take the set 25-19, despite the Navy and Gold delaying set point on two occasions.

A back and forth battle early in the second set, the Hawks managed to grab a 17-13 advantage midway through the point, but MC reassembled and delayed three, consecutive set points before it fell 25-20 on a Madeline Munroe kill. The Navy and Gold used a service error and back-to-back kills from Mitchell and Gracie Liljenquist to derail the set point.

The Lady Choctaws and Shorter exchanged leads and ties through the entire set. MC held a 19-18 advantage in the final set, but SU rallied with five of the next six points to take a 23-20 lead. MC capitalized on two, straight Hawk errors to pull within 23-22. Following a MC miscue, Shorter closed out the match on a kill from Brooke Sims to claim the match.
