ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped a straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) match at Shorter University on Friday evening. MC moves to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in Gulf South Conference action while the Hawks improve to 9-4 and 3-1 in the league.

KEY NOTES
Kayana Mitchell recorded a career-high with 17 kills in the contest. The tally surpassed her previous mark of 14 set against William Carey on Sept. 7.The Southaven, Miss., native added a team-best five total blocks on the defensive end.

Sydney Chandler dished out a team-best 19 assists while
Amanda Torres helped guide the offense with 11 assists.
Madison Kimes supplied a team-leading 15 digs in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
MC fell behind 15-7 in the opening set, but the Lady Choctaws rallied behind a 9-3 run to clip the deficit to 18-16. However, Shorter rallied to take the set 25-19, despite the Navy and Gold delaying set point on two occasions.

A back and forth battle early in the second set, the Hawks managed to grab a 17-13 advantage midway through the point, but MC reassembled and delayed three, consecutive set points before it fell 25-20 on a Madeline Munroe kill. The Navy and Gold used a service error and back-to-back kills from Mitchell and
Gracie Liljenquist to derail the set point.

The Lady Choctaws and Shorter exchanged leads and ties through the entire set. MC held a 19-18 advantage in the final set, but SU rallied with five of the next six points to take a 23-20 lead. MC capitalized on two, straight Hawk errors to pull within 23-22. Following a MC miscue, Shorter closed out the match on a kill from Brooke Sims to claim the match.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn., as it faces Lee University. First serve is set for 12 p.m. central.
