SPRINGFIELD, Ill. --- For the second consecutive day, the Mississippi College volleyball team split at the University of Illinois Springfield Capital Classic. The Lady Choctaws (2-2) opened the day with a 3-1 win over Ohio Valley University, but stumbled against the host UIS falling 3-0.

Tessa Liljenquist and
Autumn Frost made their MC debuts. Liljenquist joins her twin sister Gracie, who made her first appearance in the Navy and Gold on Friday. The twins played together for the first time in college in the third set.

Frost made her first appearance in a volleyball uniform. The Largo, Fla., native is also a member of the Lady Choctaw track and field team.

Shelby Grace Mays led the Lady Choctaws for the second consecutive match in kills en route to gathering her third career double-double. The Arab, Ala., native totaled 12 kills and 16 digs.

Sydney Chandler garnered her 11th career double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs. The assist total matches
Amanda Torres, who also dished out 18.
Madison Kimes supplied 13 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Mississippi College jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first two sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-19. The Lady Choctaws marched out to a 21-14 advantage in the first set, but a 9-1, Fighting Scots run nipped the deficit to 24-23. However, the Navy and Gold didn't relinquish the lead as a
Krista Zieschang supplied the final kill of the set.

MC once again ran out to a large lead, at 21-10, in the second set. OVU cut the lead to 23-17, but the Lady Choctaws fought off the late rally to secure the two-set advantage.

After OVU claimed the third set 25-16, the two squads exchanged leads in the fourth set. The Blue and Red gained a 13-10 lead in the set, but MC rallied to tie the contest at 14-all on a service ace from Chandler. A pair of OVU miscues placed the Lady Choctaws up two points and sparked a 9-5 run to secure the match.

The Prairie Stars used a balanced attack to turn back the Navy and Gold. UIS posted a .382 clip for the match and held the Lady Choctaws attack at bay as it posted 16 total blocks on the defensive effort.
