CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a 12-1 contest to West Alabama on the opening day of "pool play" in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. MC moved to 20-26 on the season while UWA improved to 33-17.
 
KEY STATS

• Hunter Wilson continued his hot hitting as the Olive Branch, Miss., native collected a lead-off hit in his first trip to the plate. The hit moved his hit streak to 24 games and his on-base mark to 27 straight contests. Wilson finished with the only multiple hit performance with a pair of hits to run his mark to 16 games.
• Hunter Mullis (4-5) took the loss on the bump as the starter tossed just one inning. Mullis allowed seven runs – four earned – on six hits.
• Seth Holbert (4-2) took the complete-game win on the bump for the Red and White. Holbert struck out four and allowed just six hits in the effort.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• West Alabama jumped on the board early with two runs in its first trip to the plate on a Marcus Morrisette two-out, two-run single.
• The Tigers added five runs in the second inning and four additional runs in the bottom of the third to run their lead to 11-0.
• Casey Echols gave MC its first run of the game on a lead-off home run to left field in the top of the fourth. The homer was the fourth of the season for the Braxton, Miss., product.
• Tyler Lee capped the scoring for the Red and White with a solo home run in the fourth.
