CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team looks returns to non-conference action as the Choctaws host Spring Hill College on Wednesday, Apr. 19. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

THE SERIES
  • Mississippi College and Spring Hill meet for the eighth time in series history on Wednesday and the second time this season. The Badgers claimed a 5-2 win on Mar. 1 of this season to take a 5-2 lead in the series. The Navy and Gold's last win came on Mar. 1, 2016 in a 5-0 decision in Mobile, Ala.
 
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
  • Hunter Mullis was named Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week for his effort against UAH over the weekend. Mullis struck out a season-high 12 batters as the Choctaws defeated UAH 3-0 in the second game on Saturday afternoon. It marked the first time UAH had been blanked since March 31, 2014. The Columbus, Miss., native allowed just three singles and surrendered four walks in the third shutout for MC this season.
  •  The Choctaws look to get back into the win column following a 13-7 setback in Gulf South Conference play against UAH to lose two of three to the Chargers over the weekend.
  • Spring Hill marks the third straight opponent from the State of Alabama following GSC series against North Alabama and UAH. MC has faced five squads from the Yellowhammer State this season.
  • Chance Whitten, Casey Echols and Kyle Smith pace the Choctaws offensively. Whitten leads the team with a .352 clip at the plate and ranks second in hits with 45. Echols has a team-best 46 hits and is hitting .346, which is second on the squad. Smith ranks third in batting average with a .333. Whitten and Blaine Crim lead each have a team-best 29 RBI on the season.
  • Mullis leads the MC hurlers with 45 strikeouts this season. The junior has also logged a team-leading 3.63 ERA and leads the team with four wins on the hill.
 
SPRING HILL NOTES
  • The Badgers are 23-19 this season, but riding a two-game, losing streak after dropping the final two games of the series against Miles College over the weekend.
  • Wednesday's outing marks the final non-conference contest for the Badgers this season as it closes out the season at Kentucky State and against Clark Atlanta. The Purple and White is 12-15 in non-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
  • SHC is led by Michael Druhan's .415 batting average this season. Druhan is sixth on the team with 39 hits and fourth with 31 RBI. Brandon Hairagel leads the team with 41 RBI while Ulysses Fluellen has 60 hits.
  • Sean Bretz has a team-best 62 strikeouts this season and leads the pitching staff with a 1.64 ERA. His 6-1 record on the hill also ranks tops on the team.
 
NEXT UP
  • Mississippi College returns to GSC action this weekend as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn., to face Lee University in a pivotal weekend series as both teams attempt to lay claim to a GSC Tournament berth with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
