Choctaws Drop Series to UAH

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a 13-7 decision in the series finale with the University of Alabama in Huntsville. MC moves to 16-22 on the season and 12-14 in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 20-21 and 13-14 in the league.
 
KEY STATS
  • The Choctaws picked up multiple hit efforts from five batters led by Grant Barber's 3-for-3 afternoon along with two RBI. Kyle Smith, Casey Echols, Chance Whitten and Blaine Crim each added two hits apiece. Crim joined Barber with a two RBI effort.
  • Jake Fraze (3-4) was saddled with the loss on the mound. The hurler allowed four runs on six hits with two walks a strikeout in 4.0 frames in the relief effort.
  • Zack Ingram tossed 3.0 innings in the start and allowed five runs on six hits with a walk.
  • Taylor Clemons (3-2) got the win on the hill with 6.0 innings tossed in the start. The hurler allowed seven runs – six earned – on 12 hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
  • Gabe Gunter (1) logged his first save of the season with three, scoreless innings of relief in which he allowed two hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After UAH jumped on the board first with two runs in its first trip to the plate, MC grabbed the lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs headlined by a two-run home run by Crim.
  • The Chargers regained the lead in the third with a two-run, double by Nolan Ramsey, however, the Navy and Gold responded with two runs in the home half of the inning, taking back the lead, on a RBI single from Barber and a bases loaded walk from Will Elliott.
  • After adding a run in the top of the fourth to deadlock the contest, UAH added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to take the lead and not look back.
  • MC attempted to rally with a run in the sixth and seventh on singles from Barber and Hunter Wilson to clip the lead to within two runs, 9-7.
  • The Chargers added two runs in the eighth before a two-run home run by Wright Hackett concluded the scoring.
