CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team secured their sixth-straight victory with an 8-1 win over the Hawks of Shorter University on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaws improve to 8-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Gulf South Conference play.
In singles action, MC picked up five of the possible six points up for grabs.
Marcos Rocca picked up his team-leading ninth singles win with a victory over Patrick Sanders in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
Trey Randall and
Petar Damjanovic both blanked their opponents in straight sets (6-0, 6-0), while
Joan Valy knocked off Jose Moreno in straight sets in the number one matchup (6-2, 6-2).
In doubles play, Valy and Rocca defeated Jose Moreno and Talha Zubair 8-1 in the number one spot to improve to a team-best 8-1 as a pair.
Lucio Menezes and Damjanovic shutout Patrick Sanders and Mason Barnette 8-0 in the number two matchup to improve to 6-2 on the season together.
The Choctaws will return to the court on Tuesday March 28, when they will take on the Warhawks of Auburn University at Montgomery in Montgomery, Ala. Match time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
