Lady Choctaws Fall at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped its third straight Gulf South Conference contest as the Lady Choctaws fell 63-45 at in-state and GSC foe Delta State on Monday, Feb. 6 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. MC moves to 10-10 on the season and 7-9 in the conference. DSU improved to 9-12 and 5-11 in the league.
 
TURNING POINT
  • Mississippi College led 24-21 at the half, but Delta State outscored the Lady Choctaws 27-8 in the third period en route to the 18-point win.
KEY STATS
  • Ashley Minor recorded 13 points in the setback. The Natchez, Miss., native has scored in double figures 31 times in her career for the Navy and Gold with 13 coming this season.
  • Kelley Allen paced the Navy and Gold on the glass with eight rebounds in the outcome. Allen has led MC in rebounds 10 times this season.
  • Anissa Jackson recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. Alondrea Rush paced the team with 18 points while Aspriona Gilbert tallied 16 points from the Green and White.
  • MC shot 32.7 percent from the floor in the setback while DSU connected on 40.4 percent, including a clip of 30.8 from behind the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mississippi College led much of the first half. The Lady Choctaws held as much as a 7-point lead, 9-2, with 3:29 left in the first quarter on a jumper by Cortrice Golden. The advantage was the largest of the game for MC.
  • Delta State grabbed its second lead of the game with 6:38 left in the second quarter on a layup by Kaelin Kneeland.
  • MC regained the lead with 5:54 left before the half on a pair of Toni Woods' free throws. The Navy and Gold pushed lead out to 21-16 at the 4:47 mark of the first half before taking a 24-21 lead in at the break.
  • DSU recovered the lead with 7:38 left in the third quarter at 25-24 and used a 13-4 run to take the first double-digit lead of the game by either team with 3:24 left in the third period.
  • The Lady Statesmen garnered their largest lead of the game, 50-32, with 8:40 left to play in the game on a jumper by Gilbert.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Mississippi College led for 17:37 during the game, including 15:15 in the first half. DSU held the lead for 22:09 in the game.

Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 9 as it hosts Shorter University. MC looks to avenge an 82-78, overtime loss in Rome, Ga., on Dec. 17. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
