Senior Day Spoiled; Lady Choctaws fall to Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 73-57 contest to Union University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at A.E. Wood Coliseum. UU improved to 15-11 and 10-10 in the conference while MC moves to 12-12 and 9-11 in the league.
 
TURNING POINT
  • After having its advantage narrowed to four points with just under 7:30 to play in the opening half, Union went on a 15-0 run to take a 35-16 lead with 2:30 left to play before the half.
 
KEY STATS
  • Two Lady Choctaws recorded 15 points in the setback. Olivia Mabry scored in double figures for the ninth time this season while Kelley Allen added her 19th contest in double-digits. Allen also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
  • The Lady Choctaws posted a clip of 84.2 from the charity stripe.
  • Union shot 46.0 percent from the field while MC connected on 32.1 percent.
  • Union had four players in double figures led by Bria Gaines with 17 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MC struck first in the contest off a 3-pointer by Mabry 18 seconds into the game.
  • Chelsea Bodiford knocked down a trey to tie the outing 18 ticks later and spurred a 13-2 run by the Lady Bulldogs – giving them a 16-5 lead with just over a minute to play in the first quarter.
  • MC clipped the deficit 16-10 at the end of the period on a 3-pointer from Cortrice Golden and a layup from Zariah Matthews.
  • The Lady Choctaws narrowed the lead to 20-16 with 7:23 left before the half, but a Lady Bulldog run to end the first half helped UU to a 14-point lead at the intermission.
  • Union grabbed its largest lead of the game, 45-24, at 6:16 mark of the third quarter on a 3-pointer from Tiffany Rechis.
  • Union maintained the double-digit lead through the remainder of the game.

  • Union led over 38 minutes of the contest.
  • MC outscored Union 8-0 in fastbreak points.
  • Both teams received 17 points from their benches.
