CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team opens Gulf South Conference action this weekend as the Choctaws travel to Pensacola, Fla., to face the 17th-ranked University of West Florida in a three-game series. The series opens on Saturday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m. Sunday's finale is set for 1 p.m.

THE SERIES
Mississippi College and West Florida meet for the seventh time in series history on Saturday. The Argonauts lead the series 5-1. MC claimed the opening contest in last year's weekend series 10-4 with UWF taking the final two outings and the series.

In the last four games, four Choctaws are batting .333 or better led by
Will Elliott and
Hunter Bolin's .364 clips.
Blaine Crim leads the team in hits during the stretch with five followed by Elliott, Bolin and
Hunter Austin's four hits.

Samuel Harrison pitched a scoreless two innings in his 2017 debut. The sophomore allowed just one hit with a pair of walks and a strikeout in his start at Montevallo on Wednesday. The hurler received no decision in the contest.

On the season, Elliott has moved into the top spot in hitting as the senior is batting .350 on the season. The Oxford, Miss., native sits second on the team with seven hits and is tied for tops on the team with four RBI.

Jake Fraze and
Tommy Taborda lead the MC pitching staff in strikeouts. Taborda has fanned a team-best 11 batters while Fraze has 10 punch outs on the campaign. The duo also first and second in innings pitched. Taborda has tossed 10.1 frames while Fraze has 10 innings of work on the hill.

Zack Ingram is tied for second on the team in innings pitched with nine along with
Tim Holloway. Ingram has six strikeouts on the season in two starts.

WEST FLORIDA NOTES
West Florida enters the weekend riding a three-game win streak following an 8-0 win over Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday. The Argos took two of three from Rollins last weekend.

Justin Ambrosino leads West Florida in five offensive categories though eight games. The senior from Brandon, Fla., leads the team with a .444 batting average along with 16 hits, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and four home runs.

Jared Middleton leads the UWF pitching staff. Middleton leads the team in strikeouts with 10 in 10.1 innings pitched.

Following the weekend series, Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as it hosts the University of Arkansas at Monticello. First pitch against the Boll Weevils is set for 3 p.m. at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium.
