Men's Basketball Preview: Christian Brothers

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team will look to build some momentum late in the season as they travel to Memphis to face Christian Brothers on Thursday night. Tip-off at Canale Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

THE SERIES
This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two schools with CBU holding a 6-5 edge in the series. Since MC re-joined the GSC prior to the 2014-15 season, the Bucs have won all five meetings, including an 82-73 win in Clinton on December 31st. Xavion Dillon came off the bench to lead MC with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Alex Trentman led the Bucs with 18 points.

LAST GAME: The Choctaws snapped a 10-game losing streak on Saturday with a 90-83 victory over Lee. Junior Antonio Johnson led the way with 24 points, going 7-of-8 from the field, 6-of-7 from the three-point line and 4-of-4 from the foul line. The McComb native also added seven rebounds and five assists as Dillon (22) and senior DeOndre Haynes (21) also scored more than 20 points in the victory. MC had 27 assists in the victory, which is the most for a Choctaw team since December 19, 2005 when the Choctaws had 28 against McMurry.

LAST GAME: The Bucs wrapped up a difficult road trip with a 79-65 loss at Valodsta State on Saturday afternoon. Missing three of their regular players due to illness, CBU trailed 38-23 at the half and could not overcome the early deficit. Jeff Larkin led the Bucs with 19 points, but only went 9-of-24 from the field. Charlie Oswald scored 11, whilhe Tyler Estep had 10 off the bench.
 

GAME NOTES
- The Choctaws are led by 13th-year head coach Don Lofton, who earned his 200th career victory on December 3rd in an 83-65 win over Selma.
- Johnson (13.0 ppg) is now the team's leading scorer and is shooting 41% from the three-point line on the year, which leads the Gulf South Conference. He is currently tied for 6th in three-point attempts (230) and 10th in three-pointers made (90).
- Junior Stacey Mack (12.6 ppg / 8.0 rpg) has scored in double-figures in all 14 games in 2017, posting 11 points and 12 boards against Lee. The Choctaws are now 5-1 this season and 8-2 overall when Mack tallies a double-double.
- Haynes (12.8 ppg) and Dillon (11.4 ppg) are also averaging in double-figures this season. Haynes is the team-leader in assists per game (3.6), while Dillon tallied a career-high with the 22 points in the win over Lee.
- The Bucs, who have already qualified for the GSC postseason tournament, are led by former Choctaw Mike Nienaber, who is in his 18th season at the helm. CBU is coming off a tough road trip to West Florida and Valdosta State that saw them drop a couple GSC games.
- Sophomore Adam Dieball (17.3 ppg) is the team's leading scorer, shooting 46% from the field and 40% from the three-point line, while leading the team with 4.9 assists per game.
- Junior Jeff Larkin (16.8 ppg) leads the team with 33 steals and has scored in double-figures in the last nine games. He scored 19, going 9-of-24 from the field in the last outing against Valdosta State.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
