CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team knocked off the Tigers of Jackson State 5-4 on Monday afternoon. MC's season-opening win brings their record to 1-0 for the year.
The Choctaws were only able to pick up one point in doubles action against the Tigers.
Max Nilges and
Lucio Menezes defeated Alawi Andrey and Federico Mendeita 8-3.
Trailing 2-1, the Choctaws were able to tie up the match at 4-4 with single's victories from Menezes (6-3, 2-6, 7-5),
Marcos Rocca (6-0, 6-2) and
Petar Damjanovic (7-5, 6-3). Nilges won the deciding match for MC, knocking off Stylianos Gkontsaris in straight sets (6-1, 7-5) and clinching MC's first victory of the 2017 season.
The Choctaws will return to action on Friday, February 17 when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. to take part in the Ouachita Baptist Tournament.
