Offensive Prowess Leads Choctaws to Win over Lee

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team snapped its losing skid with a 90-83 win over Lee University on Saturday, Feb. 11 at A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC improves to 5-17 and 2-16 in the Gulf South Conference while Lee falls to 9-15 and 5-13 in the league.
 
KEY STATS
  • Mississippi College posted three players with 20-plus points in the victory and four players totaled double figures.
  • Antonio Johnson led MC with 24 points in the win while Xavion Dillion provided 22 and DeOndre Haynes added 21 points. It marks the fifth game with 20-plus points for Haynes this season, including four of his last five outings. Johnson now has four game with 20 or more points while it's the second for Dillon this season.
  • Stacey Mack turned in 11 points and grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lee led by as many as seven points midway through the first half, 22-15, – its largest lead of the game, but the Choctaws erased the deficit with 5:48 left to play before the half as Dillon drained a layup and hit the following free throw to place MC up 28-26.
  • After the Flames knotted the game at 28-all, Dillon helped extend the lead on MC's next possession with dunk to put the home team up 30-28 with just over five to play before the intermission.
  • MC maintained the lead and took a 36-34 advantage into the locker room at the half.
  • The Choctaws held the advantage until the 10:20 mark of the second stanza when Cody Farley's layup place the Flames up 53-52, however, a layup from Dillon and a 3-pointer from Johnson placed MC back up 57-54 with 9:26 left to play. The Choctaws never relinquished the lead the remainder of the way.
  • MC grabbed its largest lead of the game with 3:06 left to play, 74-65, on a jumper by Haynes.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Mississippi College received 31 of its points from its bench in the win while the Flames totaed 17 from their reserves.
  • MC garnered 11 second chance points to Lee's four and outscored LU 42-34 in the paint.
