Choctaws drop pair in Doubleheader vs. Lindenwood

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a pair of games in a double-header against Lindenwood University on Saturday afternoon. MC fell 12-4 in game number one, and 8-1 in game number two.
 
NOTES
  • With the pair of losses, MC's record falls to 1-5 on the season
  • Lindenwood improved their record to 3-2.
 
GAME ONE
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Blaine Crim led the Choctaws offensively in game number one, going 2-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI's. Crim also scored two runs in the contest
  • Hunter Bolin and Kyle Smith each added two hits for MC, with each also scoring a run.
  • Chance Whitten added the other two RBI's for MC, going 1-3 at the dish
  • Jake Fraze (1-1) took the loss on the hill for MC. The junior lefty sturck out two batters over three innings over work, while giving up three earned.
  • Tim Holloway threw five innings of relief out of the bullpen for MC, allowing four earned and striking out three.
  • Benton Garrison saw one inning of action on the night, the left-handed reliever allowed one earned, facing four batters in the ninth inning.
  • Drew Quinones had the hot bat for Lindenwood in game number one, going 3-3 at the plate with four runs driven in and three runs scored.
  • Bobby Land added a 2-5 performance, with three RBIs and a run scored
  • Andrew Eilers (2-0) picked up the win for Lindenwoon, tossing six innings, while allowing four runs and striking out nine.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lindenwood drew first blood in the top of the first inning, when Quiones saftety squeezed in the Lions first run of the ball game.
  • The lions would add two more in the third inning, via a Bobby Lang RBI groundout and a Rayce Singbush RBI single to left.
  • MC would go on to tie the ballgame in the bottom half of the inning, with an RBI single from Crim, and a two-RBI knock from Whitten up the middle.
  • The Lions picked up three more runs in the top of the fourth, with a two-RBI single from Quinones, and a wild pitch that plated Brett Anderson.
  • MC Would pick up their last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, when Crim took an 0-1 delivery from Eilers and sent it over the right field wall for his first homerun of the season.
  • The Lions would go on to score six more runs over the next four frames, including three in the eighth.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The lions picked up 15 hits in game one, the most MC has surrendered in their young season.
  • The Choctaws committed a season-high four errors in the field, which led to four unearned runs being scored.
  • The Lindenwood pitching staff struck out 11 Choctaws over the course of nine innings, led by Eiders nine.
 
 
GAME 2
STANDOUND PERFMORERS
  • Will Elliott went 1-3 at the plate for MC in game number 2. Elliot accounted for a stolen base, while also scoring MC's only run.
  • Casey Echols, Hunter Bolin and Hunter Sykes all also added a hit in the contest.
  • Tommy Taborda (0-1) took the loss for MC. The sophomore righty allowed six earned runs over five innings of work, striking out five.
  • Shelby Craddock and Matt Payne teamed up to throw the final two frames for MC, each getting an inning of work.
  • Blake Beckmann (1-0) earned the win for the Lions, tossing seven innings of work and allowing only one run in a complete-game effort.
  • Kyle Teter led the charge on offense for Lindenwood, with a three-run homer in the first inning that drove in a team-high three runs.
  • Sam Baxter and Nick Paulda both drove in a pair of runs for the Lions in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Teter's three-run round-tripper came on an 0-1 delivery from Taborda with two outs in the top of the first, giving the lions a lead that they would not relinquish.
  • Lindenwood would go on to score runs in the third, sixth and eights innings to give way to their final total.
  • The navy and gold cracked the scoreboard fifth inning, when Smith reached on an error by the Lindenwood pitcher that allowed Elliot to score.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • MC left a total of six runners on base, compared to Lindenwood's seven.
  • Both teams committed just one error apiece in game number two.
  • The MC pitching staff forced five ground-outs on the evening and eight fly-outs.

  • MC will wrap up their three-game series with Lindenwood tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
