HOOVER, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team split on the final day of the Gulf South Conference-Sunshine State South Region Crossover. MC (10-13) outlasted Nova Southeastern 3-2 in the opening match of the day, but fell in straight sets to Embry-Riddle to close out the day.

The five-set win is the first in program history for the Lady Choctaws in the third annual Crossover.

Amanda Torres became the first player in program history with a triple-double. The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native recorded 10 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs in the win.

Sydney Chandler posted 21 assists and 13 digs in the match while
Kayana Mitchell led the team in kills with 11.
Gracie Liljenquist added 10 kills.

Jill Brown led the team with 29 digs while
Julia Martin provided 11 to assist in the defensive effort.

Denvyr Tyler-Palmer led NSU with 31 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the two teams exchanged 25-18 outcomes in the first two sets, MC took advantage in the match with a 25-23 win in the third set. The two teams stood 20-all when MC went on a 3-0 run to grab a 23-20 lead. NSU answered with a 3-0 run of its own to force a 23-all deadlock. The Lady Choctaws closed out the set with back-to-back kills from
Krista Zieschang.

The Sharks held a 23-16 lead in the fourth set, MC used an attack error to close the gap to 24-21, but a Lady Choctaw attacking miscue closed the set at 25-21.

In the final set, the two teams stood deadlocked at 8-all, but after two errors by NSU to place up MC 10-8, Liljenquist provided a kill to give the Navy and Gold an 11-8. MC went on a 3-1 run to extend its lead to 14-9. The Sharks clipped the deficit to 14-11, but an attack error ended the rally attempt and gave MC a 15-11 win.
EMBRY-RIDDLE NOTES
Ashton King paced MC with seven kills in the three sets while Chandler dished out a team-best 16 assists. Torres added 13 assists along with 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Brown led the team with 17 digs.

Melanie Canfield led ERA with 14 kills in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a back and forth opening few points, ERA grabbed a 16-11 lead in the first set. MC clipped the deficit to 20-18, but the Eagles closed the set with five of the last six points to clinch 25-19.

ERA grabbed a 13-7 lead early in the second set and rode the swing to a 25-18 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

MC opened the third set with a 5-1 run and pressed the lead to 12-5. The Eagles rallied to knot the contest at 16-all. After MC used an ERA error to go up 17-16, the Eagles rode a 7-0 run to take a commanding 23-17 lead. Following a service error, the Blue and Gold closed out the match with two straight kills and clinch 25-18.
COACH TUPPER'S COMMENTS
We saw some things that we feel like we can build on and continue to improve as we return to conference play. We saw some good competition this weekend and look forward to our home match on Tuesday against Christian Brothers.
