HOOVER, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in four sets to Flagler College in its only match on Friday at the South Region Crossover at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex – Finley Center. MC moves to 9-12 on the season while the Saints improved to 12-3.
KEY NOTES
Sydney Chandler became the program leader in assists with 1,627. The Silverhill, Ala., native recorded a team-best 17 assists in the four-set match.

Krista Zieschang and
Ashton King paced the Lady Choctaws with seven kills each.
Kayana Mitchell and
Hannah Rue each added six kills.
Autumn Frost posted five kills followed by
Gracie Liljenquist with four on the day.

Amanda Torres dished out 13 assists.

Jill Brown paced the squad on the defensive end with 16 digs while King added 12. Rue and Frost each tallied three blocks to assist on the defensive end.

Taja Valmyr led Flagler with 13 kills and added 12 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi College opened the match with a 25-23 win in the opening set. The Lady Choctaws held a 10-6 advantage midway through the contest, but witnessed the Saints rally and knot the contest at 13-all. The two squads exchanged leads and held six ties down the stretch, with the last coming at 23-all. Following a Mitchell kill to put MC up 24-23, the Southaven, Miss., senior added a service ace to clinch the set.

The two teams stood tied at 7-all in the second set, but FC went on a 10-4 run to take control of the point. The Saints rode the momentum to a 25-14 win and knotted the contest at a set each.

A 5-1 run sparked a FC win in the third set as the Saints grabbed their largest lead of the set at 24-10. MC delayed set point as it capitalized on an attack error, but Valmyr closed the set with one of her team-leading kills.

Similar to the second set, the two squads stood deadlocked at 7-all, but FC went on a 7-0 run to grab a 14-7 advantage. The Saints continued to add pressure to the Navy and Gold as it grabbed a double-digit lead at 20-10 on a kill by Tara Savisky en route to a 25-12, match-clinching win.
