CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team grabbed its second straight Gulf South Conference win with a 73-58 victory over the University of West Georgia on Monday evening. MC improves to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in GSC. UWG falls to 5-6 and 4-3 in the conference.

Cortrice Golden and
Kelley Allen each recorded double-doubles in the win. Golden provided 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Allen had a team-best 12 rebounds and added 10 points. It marks the first time this season that a Lady Choctaw duo have tallied a double-double in the same game.

Ashley Minor continued her streak of consecutive double-digit scoring efforts. The Natchez, Miss., native added a team-best 16 points. The effort comes on the heels of a career-high 23 point night in the win against West Alabama. The senior has scored in double figures six straight times.

Kaitlyn Thompson tied a season-high with 10 rebounds. It matches her total against LeMoyne-Owen earlier this season.

MC held the advantage with points as the Lady Choctaws bested the Wolves in points in the paint (26-16), points off turnovers (26-16), second chance points (14-7) and fast break points (4-0).

The Lady Choctaws grabbed 49 rebounds in the outing and held an 11-board advantage over the Red and Blue. The total matched a season-best set at Shorter earlier this season.

West Georgia was led by Aysha Harris with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi College led from the opening tip. The Lady Choctaws opened the contest on a 7-0 run and reached its first double figure lead early in the second quarter, 16-6, on a free throw from Golden.

MC held West Georgia to just six points in the first quarter – the lowest quarter total for the opposition this season. The mark surpasses the previous low of 12 points by Lane College in the season opener.

MC led by as many as 16 points on three different occasions in the first half with the last coming with 15 second left in the first 20 minutes on a layup by Allen.

The Lady Choctaws reached its largest lead of the game, 71-49, with 1:42 left in the contest as
Melissa Creese swiped the ball from UWG's Camreen White and laid the ball up on the fast break opportunity.

West Georgia never reached with 11 points the entire second half after trailing 36-23 at the intermission.
