Lady Choctaws Upend GSC Leader UNA; Run Win Streak to Four

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team ran its win streak to a season-best four straight with a 78-63 win over Gulf South Conference leader North Alabama. MC improves to 7-5 on the season and 5-4 in the conference. UNA falls to 12-3 and 6-3 in the league.
 
KEY STATS
Ashley Minor recorded a career-high with a team-best 26 points to lead MC in the win. The Natchez, Miss., native also grabbed 10 rebounds for the second double-double of her career. The board total also marked a career-high for the senior guard.
 
Cortrice Golden joined Minor with a double-double. The Memphis, Tenn., product compiled 12 points and pulled down a season-best 12 rebounds in the win.
 
Kelley Allen poured in a season-high 23 points and finished two boards shy of her fourth double-double of the season.
 
Mississippi College overpowered the Lions in the paint as MC outscored the Purple and Gold 40-22.
 
Ivy Wallen led UNA with 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds
 
North Alabama went 7-for-35 from behind the 3-point arc.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After losing the lead in the later minutes of the first quarter, Mississippi College regained the lead, 21-19, with 6:45 left before the half on an Allen jumper. The Lady Choctaws erased a five-point deficit to take the lead for good.
 
UNA forced a pair of deadlocks midway through the second quarter with the last coming with 3:53 left before in the intermission at 23-all. MC closed out the half on a 12-5 run to claim a 35-28 lead at the half.
 
MC took its first double-digit lead with 3:14 remaining in the third quarter on a Minor 3-pointer. The Lions clipped the lead to 52-49 in before the end of the quarter and stayed within range until the 6:55 mark of the contest when the Navy and Gold regained double figure lead at 63-53.
