LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team defeated the Tigers of the University of West Alabama 1-0 on Friday evening, improving their overall record to 6-1-1, and their GSC record to 4-0. The win pushes the Choctaws current win streak to five games.
"Both teams grinded it out for 90 minutes," Head Coach
Kevin Johns said. "We were fortunate enough to be able capitalize on a scoring opportunity, and pick up a tough road win against a good program in UWA. We've got a quick turnaround, though, so we've got to refocus for Sunday's game."
Jacob farthing was responsible for the entire match's scoring action. The junior midfielder booted in the eventual game-winning goal in the 67
th minute, when he fired a strike from 26 yards out that found the back of the net. The score marked his fifth of the season, good enough for second on the team. It was also Farthing's third game-winning goal of the year, a number that leads all Choctaws in that stat category
Horacio Gutierrez Jr. paced the Choctaw offense with three shots taken on the evening. Farthing recorded the Choctaws lone shot on goal of the match.

In Goal,
Humberto Pelaez grabbed six saves, in route to his third shutout of the season. The junior netminder improved his record to 5-1-1 on the season, while also improving his goals against average to 1.23.
The Choctaws were outshot by the Tigers 10-7 in the contest. MC put up one shot on goal, to UWA's six. MC took two shots in the first half, and five shots in the second half.
The Choctaws took six corner kicks on the evening, compared to the Tigers seven. MC was tagged for six fouls, to UWA's nine. West Alabama committed all three of the offside infractions that were called. MC was handed out two yellow cards, while UWA was given only one.
Up next for the Choctaws, they will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take on The University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
