Volleyball Falls to Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision on Wednesday evening at A.E. Wood Coliseum. The setback moves MC to 6-3 and 0-2 in the Gulf South Conference while Valdosta State improved to 3-5 and 0-2 in the conference.

"Tonight was a tough pill to swallow. We started out leading and then slowly dropped off," said head coach Julie Redus. "It was a combination of things that made the ball drop on our side of the floor more than theirs. They are always a strong team and we really tried to buckle down and take some points from them. Things don't always go as planned, but luckily we'll be back at it again this weekend."

The Lady Choctaws were led by Krista Zieschang with five kills and 11 digs. Bailee Berringer added nine assists while Madison Kimes provided a team-best 12 digs.

"We've just got to keep our energy up. I feel like tonight we played down to our previous reputation," Redus said. "What we're now starting to realize is that we cannot be underestimated. We are not the same team as we preiously have been, it's just about time we started acting like it."

Susanna Peonia paced Valdosta State with 14 kills and a .345 attack percentage while Sara Dandridge dished out 33 of the Red and Black's assists. Three Blazers totaled double-digit in blocks led by Peonia's 18. Sydney Chick added 16 along with Dandridge's 12 digs. Kayla Widera and Ashley Miller each tallied four blocks.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 as it travels to Jackson, Tenn., to face Union University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
