CLINTON, Miss. --- A valiant effort falls short as the Mississippi College volleyball team had its six-game win streak snapped on Monday evening as the Lady Choctaws (6-2, 0-1 Gulf South Conference) fell 3-1 to Shorter University. The Hawks improve to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

"It was a great, four sets played by both teams tonight. We fought hard on every ball on defense and offense," said head coach
Julie Redus. "We had some rocky serve and receive on our end, but we got crucial points when we needed them. We made them use everything they had tonight. Overall, it was a good first match in the GSC and just proves that every set can be anybody's set."

A pair of Lady Choctaws recorded double-digit kills in the match led by
Jenna Campbell's 12 – which tied a season-high. It marks the fifth time this season in double figure kills for the League City, Texas, native and improves her team-leading total to 75.

Krista Zieschang posted her first double-digit kill effort of the season as she finished with a season-high 10 kills. The Houston, Texas, native also totaled 12 digs for her first double-double of the season.
Bailee Berringer tied a season-high mark with 23 assists – matching her effort from Sept. 9 against Williams Baptist.

Sydney Chandler posted her second double-double of the season with 12 assists and 13 digs. The Silverhill, Ala., junior was one of four Lady Choctaws with double figure digs led by
Madison Kimes' career-high performance of 34.

"I thought Madison (Kimes) had a great night defending our court," Redus said. "She had a great night defensively."

The Madison, Miss., product also recorded seven assists.

Shelby Grace Mays added 13 digs.

After rallying from 18-13, MC fought off set point five times in the opening set before falling 27-25. The Lady Choctaws then knotted the contest at 1-all in the second set staking claim to a 25-19 victory. MC trailed 10-5 in the set. The Navy and Gold battled to tie the contest at 12-all and then responded with a 13-7 run to close out the set and force a deadlock.

After SU took a 2-1 advantage in the third set with 25-17 result. The Lady Choctaws looked to again even the match and force a fifth and final set as MC jumped out to an early 13-8 lead. Shorter rallied to tie the contest at 18-all before taking the set and match 25-22.

Elizabeth Dowd led Shorter with 17 kills and 28 digs while Cheyenne Frady dished out 33 assists.

Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as it hosts Valdosta State. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
