On July 14th, the Mississippi College athletic department was informed that they had completed the transition process and will become the newest members of Division II and the Gulf South Conference, a league MC was a part of from 1972-1996.
The three-year process began back in 2013 with MC finishing up 18 years in Division III and the American Southwest Conference in the 2013-14 academic year. The 2014-15 and 2015-16 years saw the Choctaws and Lady Choctaws compete against Division II and Gulf South Conference competition, while not being eligible for NCAA postseason play.
The 2016-17 academic year will mark MC's first opportunity to compete for Division II and GSC championships in over 20 years.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is currently in transition to Division II and the Gulf South Conference, optimistically looking toward July when they will find out about clearing the final hurdle of transition and being full members for the 2016-17 academic year.
The athletic department sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
