CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a Sunday doubleheader to Valdosta State University as the Choctaws (12-19, 5-15 Gulf South Conference) fell 7-6 in extra innings in the night cap after being shutout 5-0 in the opener. Valdosta State improves to 22-11 and 13-6 in conference play.

Hunter Bolin and
Casey Echols provided the only multiple hit performances of the day – both coming in the second outing of the twinbill – as the Choctaws outhit the Red and Black 9-8. The duo both recorded RBI alongside
Hunter Austin while
Blaine Crim added the lone multi-RBi effort, driving in a pair.

After allowing six runs in the fifth inning to trail 6-3, MC battled back to tie the contest as the squad pasted two runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth and tied the contest in the seventh as
Logan Ferrell scored on a Crim sacrifice bunt. Echols attempted to give the Choctaws the win and head-off a series sweep with a single to right field, but
Colton Johnson, who pinch ran for
Austin Warkentin was tagged out at the dish to send the contest to extra innings.

VSU plated the winning run in the eighth as Chipper Andzel doubled to left center to score Clint Carr from first base. Carr reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in the second out of the inning.

Tyler Scholl (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season pitching two-thirds of an inning with a hit allowed.

In the opener, the Blazers' pitching held the MC bats at-bay. The Choctaws managed just five hits in the nine-inning contest as Kellan Bailey (6-3) tossed a complete game in the win.

A scoreless affair through five frames, VSU plated its first run in the sixth inning on a Cliff Bryant home run to right center field. The Blazers provided insurance runs the remainder of the way with a pair in the seventh and eighth.

Samuel Harrison (2-3) took the loss on the mound as he pitched 7.0 innings with three runs allowed on nine hits with five strikeouts and a walk. The pitching trio of
Perry Turner,
Parker Watts and
Tyler Bushue anchored down the remaining 2.0 innings as they held VSU to just one hit and two runs the remainder of the way.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 5 as it travels to Shreveport, La., to face Louisiana State University-Shreveport. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
