CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with Lee University to force a decisive, rubber game on Senior Day. The Choctaws (15-27, 6-22 Gulf South Conference) took a 3-2 win in the nightcap of the twinbill after falling 5-0 in the opening contest.
Samuel Harrison (3-5) took the win on the hill. The freshman hurler pitched 6.0 innings allowing just one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Tyler Scholl (3) fanned two without surrendering a hit or run in the final frame in the save.
The Choctaw bats were led by
Hunter Bolin and
Blaine Crim, who each recorded multiple hits in the victory. Bolin went 3-for-3 with a RBI and run scored while Crim finished the contest with a 2-for-3 performance.
Colton Caver gave the Navy and Gold the early lead in the contest with a two-run home run – his third of the season – to left field in the first inning. Caver posted the only multi-RBI effort of the contest.
Lee nipped the lead to a run in the top of the second, but in the bottom of the third, Bolin singled through the right to score
Hunter Hall and place the lead back at two runs.
The Flames, which left nine runners on base, plated a run in the fifth to narrow the lead again to a run, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
In the opener, MC was held to just one hit as Bolin logged a single in the sixth inning. He and Hunter also drew walks in the contest for the Choctaws.
Art Vidrio (6-3) notched the complete-game win for LU as he struck out six in the affair.
Jake Fraze (5-5) took the loss on the bump with 6.2 innings of work allowing four earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and six walks.
Parker Watts and
Tyler Bushue combined for 1.1 innings of work allowing a total of two hits with no runs surrendered.
Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Choctaws will honor its 11 seniors prior to the contest.
