Choctaws Top Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team snapped a nine-game skid as the Choctaws (13-23) knocked off Millsaps College, 6-1, at Twenty Field on Millsaps campus. The loss moves the Majors to 17-18 on the season.

Casey Echols paced the offensive effort for MC with three hits on the night. Logan Ferrell and Hunter Hall each added a two hits to join Echols in the multiple hit efforts.

Leading 1-0, MC added three runs in the top of the third to increase its lead to 4-0. Blaine Crim delivered the biggest blow in the frame with a two-run, home run to left field that scored Echols. The Choctaws first run of the inning came as Ferrell crossed the dish on a throwing error.

The Navy and Gold added two runs in the fourth as Hall scored on a throwing error. Hall drove in the first run of the contest back in the second inning with a RBI single. Hunter Bolin became the second run of the frame as he crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Millsaps recorded its first win in the sixth inning, but couldn't overcome the Choctaws' lead.

Tommy Taborda (1-4) pitched 5.0 innings in his first win of the season - resetting his season-longest outing. The freshman struck out a season-high eight batters while allowing one run on one hit with four walks.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 16 as the team travels to Huntsville, Ala., to face the University of Alabama in Huntsville in a Gulf South Conference, three-game series. First pitch of the Saturday twinbill is slated for 2 p.m. The Sunday finale is slated for 1 p.m.
