CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 12 as the Choctaws (12-23) travel to Millsaps College (17-17) for a non-conference tilt. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Tuesday marks the 75th meeting between Mississippi College and Millsaps with the Choctaws holding a 43-31 advantage in the series. The two squads met last season with the Majors claiming a 15-1 outing in Jackson. MC claimed the last meeting in Clinton (Apr. 30, 2014) with a 10-8 decision.
The Choctaws, who are 7-5 in non-conference action this season, look to snap a nine-game skid heading into the midweek contest. The Navy and Gold were swept at North Alabama in Gulf South Conference play over the weekend despite a couple one-run affairs. MC pushed the Sunday tilt to extra innings with three runs in the ninth, but were edged out 5-4 in 11 frames.
Logan Ferrell and
Hunter Bolin lead the Navy and Gold at the plate as the duo is hovering around .440 on the season. Ferrell leads the team with a .341 average while Bolin is second on the team with a .397 clip. Bolin leads the team with 46 hits while Ferrell has tallied 44 on the campaign.
Blaine Crim and Calbe Upton are tied for tops on the team in RBI with 21 each. On the hill,
Jake Fraze and
Samuel Harrison has each totaled 60-plus innings of work led by Fraze's 61.1. Harrison has tallied 60 frames and leads the team with 54 strikeouts while Fraze ranks second in Ks with 36.
Millsaps enters Tuesday's outing with an even 17-all record following a 4-3 win over Berry College on Saturday. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Majors.
Isaac Glenn paces the Majors at the plate with a .364 batting average and 43 hits. The senior outfielder ranks second on the team in RBI with 17. Lee Ogletree leads the team with 26 RBI and a .303 clip at the dish. On the mound, two hurlers have totaled 40-plus innings of work led by Greg Matthews 44.2 frames. Matthews also has a team-best 36 strikeouts. Daniel Adams ranks second with 40 innings and has 28 strikeouts.
Following the midweek action, Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, Apr. 16 as it travels to Huntsville, Ala., to face the University of Alabama in Huntsville. First pitch of the Saturday twinbill is scheduled for 2 p.m.
