ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College baseball team logged 10 hits in the Gulf South Conference series finale at Shorter University as the Choctaws (7-10, 1-8 GSC) fell 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Shorter improved to 10-9 on the season and 4-5 in the conference.
The Hawks registered nine hits, including the game-winner from Jacob Ramos – a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-all tie.
A trio of Choctaws posted multiple hit efforts in the contest led by
Will Elliott's three hits.
Hunter Bolin and
Hunter Austin each recorded two hits on the day.
Blaine Crim and
Austin Warkentin drove in both runs for the Navy and Gold. MC jumped on the board in its first trip to the plate as Crim hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Bolin. Warkentin followed with a RBI single to score
Logan Ferrell.
Dustin Lawson put the Blue and White on the board with a RBI single to left field in the third inning. Harrison Hatfield followed with a RBI double to left in the bottom of the fourth to tie the contest.
Tommy Taborda (0-3) took the loss on the mound with 3.0 innings in relief. The freshman fanned and walked a pair as he allowed one run on three hits in the effort.
Jake Fraze pitched 4.2 frames in the start. The sophomore sat down six batters while allowing four walks along with six hits that led to the Hawks' first two runs.
Tyler Scholl tallied a third of an inning on the bump with a walk.
Ryan Dolan (1-0) pitched 3.1 innings in the win. He allowed three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in the relief appearance. Reece Roach (1) logged a save with a hit, a walk and a strikeout in just an inning of work. Shorter starter Michael Weiksner was chased away in 4.2 frames allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 8 as it hosts the University of Arkansas at Monticello. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
