CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team cut into a big early deficit, but West Florida held on for a 66-55 victory on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (5-15, 3-14 GSC) fell behind 15-2 with three minutes to go in the first quarter, but senior
Khadijah Jones scored six straight points for MC and cut the lead to 27-16 after one period.
After trailing by 10 at the half, MC fell behind by as many as 16 before a 12-2 run, capped off by two free throws from senior
Kristen Sampson, cut the advantage to 48-42 with 3:06 to go in the third quarter.
MC was able to get the lead down to eight in the final period, but the Argos (14-7, 12-5 GSC) pulled away for their second win on the road trip after a victory at Delta State on Thursday night.
Sampson led MC with 12 points, while Jones came off the bench to score 10, her first game of the season with double-figure scoring.
Junior
Toni Woods scored eight points with a team-high seven rebounds, five steals and four blocked shots. Senior
Shaniqua Love had two points with four steals and four assists.
Four players scored in double-figures for UWF, led by Toni Brewer with 16. Katie Bobos (14 pts, 12 rebs) and Courtney Meyer (11 pts, 11 rebs) both had double-doubles for the Argos.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Florence to face North Alabama at 6:00 p.m.
