FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped an 81-65, Gulf South Conference contest on Thursday, Feb. 11 at the University of North Alabama. The outcome moves the Lady Choctaws to 5-16 and 3-15 in the conference while UNA improves to 5-18 and 4-14 in the league.
MC placed five players in double figures led by
Carla Clemmons' 14 points off the bench.
Kristen Sampson and
Chloe Roberts each added 13 points.
Allie Hill chimed in 11 points while
Toni Woods rounded out the group with 10 points.
Roberts and Clemmons tied for the team lead with seven rebounds each. Clemmons also added a season-high five block in her return to action.
UNA, which led 38-31 at the half, outscored the Navy and Gold 26-17 in the third quarter en route to ending the Lady Choctaws' bid at a season sweep. MC claimed a 91-80 victory over the Lions earlier this season in Clinton.
MC shot 38.7 percent from the field in the setback and was 5-for-19 from behind the arc in the contest. The Lions connected on 45.1 percent of its shots from the floor, including a clip of 60 percent from the 3-point line. Both teams shot under 70 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Choctaws shot just 63.2 percent from the charity stripe while UNA was 66.7 percent.
UNA held its largest lead of 20 points with 2:37 left in the third quarter on an Alexus Patterson layup. Patterson paced the team with 16 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Janae Lyde added 14 points while KeKe Gunter and Savannah Stults each provided 13 points. Jaclyn Heath tallied 10 points.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 as it travels to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
