HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 64-53 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon. The setback moves MC to 5-17 overall and 3-16 in Gulf South Conference play. UAH improves to 13-10 and 10-9 in the league.
Carla Clemmons led the Lady Choctaws with a double-double, her fourth of the season, with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Kristen Sampson added 13 points while
Chloe Roberts chimed in 11 points to round out the double figure scorers for the Navy and Gold.
MC out-shot the Blue and White from the field as the Lady Choctaws connected 39.6 percent of their shots from the field, while UAH posted a 31.1 clip. However, the Chargers held an advantage at the charity stripe hit 20-of-21 free throws in the contest while MC connected on just 45 percent.
The Lady Choctaws outscored the homestanding Chargers 18-15 in the final 10 minutes of play, but couldn't overcome 33-20 halftime deficit to avoid the season sweep. UAH gained its largest lead of the game, 16 points, with 9:49 left in the third quarter on a 3-pointer from Josi Saunders, who finished with 10 points on the day.
Baylee Johnson paced the Chargers offensively with 15 points. Dina Saunders added 11 points while Chandler Elder tied Saunders with 10 points. Chandler also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 18 as it hosts Lee University in the first of a three-game homestand. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
