CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team earned their second straight win over a Division I opponent with a 6-3 victory over Alcorn State on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Choctaws (2-0) defeated Jackson State, 5-2, on Monday before opening their home schedule with the win over the Braves (0-7).
The sophomore team of
Marcos Rocca and
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez picked up an 8-5 doubles victory at #2, while sophomores
Sanders Barrick and
Petar Damjanovic won 8-2 to take an early 2-1 lead going to singles play.
Gonzalez (6-0, 6-1) and freshman
Maximilian Nilges (7-5, 6-2) won their singles matches in straight sets at #5 and #3 respectively.
Rocca (5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4) needed three sets for a win over Nikita Kistikov at #1, while Damjanovic (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) went the distance for the win over Nuno Rocha at #4.
The Choctaws will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. for three matches at Ouachita Baptist. They will face Harding (9:00 am) and OBU (5:00 pm) on Friday, while playing Southwest Baptist (10:00 am) on Saturday.
