HOOVER, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team got all the run support it needed in the first inning as the Choctaws (5-1) blanked North Greenville University 4-0 to clinch the three-game series at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
The shutout is the first under head coach
Jeremy Haworth.
MC had three hitters with multiple hit efforts led by
Caleb Upton's 3-for-4 day at the plate. The Natchez, Miss., senior led the team with two RBI on the day.
Logan Ferrell and
Hunter Bolin joined Upton with multi-hit performances. Ferrell went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Bolin was 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Jake Fraze (2-0) tossed 7.2 innings en route to his second win of the season. The sophomore fanned six batters in the start and allowed seven hits during the stretch.
Parker Watts and
Tyler Scholl combined for the following 1.1 frames of action. The duo combined for three strikeouts while keeping the Crusaders without a hit.
Upton started the scoring with a RBI in the first inning followed by a RBI-single from
Will Elliott to take a 2-0 lead. The Choctaws delivered insurance runs in the fourth with an
Austin Warkentin RBI-single to score
Hunter Hall. Upton logged his second RBI with a single in the seventh to score Bolin.
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 16 as it travels to Magnolia, Ark., to face Southern Arkansas University. First pitch against the Muleriders is slated for 3 p.m.
