CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team snapped a seven-game, losing streak to the University of Alabama in Huntsville with 3-1 win on Senior Day. MC improves to 10-19 on the season and 3-15 in Gulf South Conference play. UAH falls to 14-14 and 7-11 in the conference.
Â
The victory gives the Lady Choctaws their first 10-plus win season since 2012 and the first as a member of the GSC since 1994.
Â
"Today's game was what we have been capable of all season. We were able to stay afloat when points weren't going our way and able to capitalize on balls given to us," said head coach
Julie Redus. "It was an amazing group effort and it was the most solid our serve receive has been all season. We came out and knew what we wanted to accomplish. We prepared well over this past week and we were just ready to put the ball down. We did that and we did it well."
Â
Jenna Campbell posted 12 kills in the win to lead MC. The double-digit performance marked her 11th of the season.
Bailee Berringer dished out a team-best 24 assists while
Sydney Chandler added 18.
Â
Madison Kimes helped direct the Lady Choctaws' defense as the junior collected 18 digs while
Ashton King added 14 on the day.
Â
"Defensively, we seemed to be picking up just about everything," Redus said. "After switching defensive styles, libero, Madison, Kimes, and all other back row players were able to track the ball easier and find ways to turn it over to our offense."
Â
Senior
Jamila Biglow posted a great performance in her final time on
Mike Jones Court in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native finished with eight kills, five blocks, four digs and an ace on her Senior Day.
Â
"Jamila had a tremendous game and her team definitely rallied behind her last home game to give her that win," said Redus.
Â
After sitting deadlocked through the first two sets, MC jumped out early in the third set holding as much as a 18-9 lead, but the Chargers rallied back to clip the deficit to within a point at ,24-23. Biglow finished off the set with a kill to give the Navy and Gold a 2-1 advantage.
Â
In the final set, the Lady Choctaws once again took an early command at 21-15, which forced UAH to use its final time out of the set. The Blue and White followed the interruption with four straight points to pull them within 21-19, but a Biglow kill ended the run and placed MC up 22-19.
Â
The Lady Choctaws finished the set with three of the next four points as Biglow concluded the match with her final kill of the day.
