ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team closed out the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover as it fell 3-0 to Rollins College on Saturday afternoon. MC moved to 8-14 on the season while the Tars improved to 9-8.
Â
Shelby Grace Mays led the Lady Choctaws with seven kills while
Sydney Chandler totaled 10 assists in the setback.
Bailee Berringer barely missed a double-double as she gathered nine assists and finished second on the team in digs with 11.
Â
Ashton King paced the squad with 14 digs while
Jenna Campbell and
Jamila Biglow defended the net with four blocks each.
Â
After MC dropped the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16, the team battled back in the third set as it hit a match-best 50 percent, however, the Tars posted an attack percentage of 64 – its second-best clip of the match.
Â
"This weekend at the Crossover was such a mental test for us. Coming off a conference game and on the road for five days straight is hard for any team," said head coach
Julie Redus. "We come in to games with good mentalities and get good points and are able to play with other teams and then we just can't get to the end. We are making good plays and serving very aggressively. We are lacking in our mental decisions, but we are working on making better ones. Luckily we get to be and play at home this week which I think will give us the mental recharge and boost we need to continue on in the second half of conference. No one should count us out, though. We're coming whether they're ready."
Â
Bri Civiero led the Blue and Gold with 12 kills and 10 digs while Gina Cappetta had 23 assists. Defensively, RC was led by five blocks from Sam Schlesman while Rebecca Wilson had a team-best 16 digs.
Â
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 20 as it hosts Christian Brothers University. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
