ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team got outscored by 10 points in the fourth quarter to fall 65-55 at Shorter University on Saturday afternoon. The setback moves MC to 4-8 and 2-6 in Gulf South Conference action.
The Lady Choctaws outscored the Hawks (10-3, 7-2 GSC) 19-13 in the third quarter to tie the contest at 41-all heading into the final 10 minutes, but couldn't overcome a 14-4 run to open the final quarter to move its win streak to two games.
Kristen Sampson and
Chloe Roberts scored in double digits to lead the Navy and Gold. Sampson posted a team-best 15 points while Roberts added 12 points.
Carla Clemmons paced MC on the glass grabbing 10 rebounds – all on the defensive end.
The Lady Choctaws shot 36.4 percent from the field, including a 30.8 clip from behind the arc. MC connected on 90.5 percent from the free throw line – marking a season-high for the squad. The percentage surpasses its previous high of 84.2 in the win at Valdosta State.
Taylor Adams led SU with 21 points while Kayla Tillie added 19 points for the Hawks. Adams also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Shorter finished the day shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and were just 1-for-10 from the 3-point line. SU had a 74.1 clip from the charity stripe.
Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Jan. 11 as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn., to face Lee University. Tip is slated for 5 p.m. central.
