CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 91-68 contest at Lee University on Monday evening. The Lady Choctaws move to 4-9 and 2-8 in Gulf South Conference play. LU improved to 11-4 and 8-2 in conference action.
Kristen Sampson and
Carla Clemmons tied for tops on the team in scoring with 15 points each. The scoring effort marks the 30th of the career for Sampson. Clemmons has tallied double digits in 10 outings.
Toni Woods paced the effort on the glass with 11 rebounds – her fourth contest double figures this season.
MC tied a season-high 50 percent from behind the arc en route to posting a 44.9 clip from the field. The Navy and Gold shot 70.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Shelby Brown led a quartet of Flames in double figures with 18 points. Erin Walsh added 16 points while Haris Price and Christina Johnson rounded out the group with 11 points each. Brown and Johnson tied for tops on the team with eight boards.
LU connected on 42.7 percent from the field, including 39.1 percent from the 3-point line. The Flames shot 85.7 from the free throw line.
Lee, which never trailed in the contest, grabbed its largest lead of the game, 78-48, with 7:51 remaining in the contest on a 3-pointer by Walsh.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 16 as the team travels to in-state foe Delta State University. Tip in Cleveland, Miss., is scheduled for 2 p.m.
