CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returned to Gulf South Conference action on Tuesday evening at A.E. Wood Coliseum and fell 3-0 to nationally-ranked West Florida. The loss moved the Lady Choctaws to 2-12 on the season and 1-5 in conference play while the #21 Argonauts improved to 12-2 and remained unblemished in the conference.
Kayana Mitchell led the Blue and Gold offensively with seven kills on the night while compiling an attack percentage of .250. The Southaven, Miss., sophomore also logged a team-best two blocks in the contest.
Sydney Chandler and
Bailee Berringer combined for 20 assists in the match with each recording 10 in the three sets. Berringer also totaled a team-leading 10 digs in the match.
Katy Kuhlmeier paced UWF with a team-best eight kills on the night. Kathryn Torre, Cora Bidlack and Autumn Duyn each tallied seven kills to finish tied for the second on the team. Hannah Beach dished out 19 assists followed by 16 Monique StCyr. Tori Martella led the defensive charge with 13 digs while Duyn added 12 in the affair.
UWF, which hit a .393 attack percentage for the night, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with set wins of 25-13 and 25-7. MC battled back in the set as it posted its best attack percentage of the night at .250, but it wasn't enough to overcome the visitors from Pensacola, Fla.
Mississippi College returns to the Coliseum floor on Friday, Oct. 2 against the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
