CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday evening at A.E. Wood Coliseum. The loss moves MC to 2-13 and 1-6 in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 13-3 and 4-3 in the conference.
Kayana Mitchell and
Taylor Edwards led the Lady Choctaws with seven kills each in the match followed by six from
Shelby Grace Mays.
Bailee Berringer and
Sydney Chandler combined for 31 of the team's 34 assists on the night. Berringer totaled a team-best 18 assists. Chandler added 13 assists to go along with her team-leading nine digs.
Jamila Biglow recorded three block solos and four assisted blocks in the match.
MC held tight in all three sets, including besting the Chargers in attack percentage in the third set with a .256. UAH posted a .227 attack percentage in the final set. The Blue and White finished the night with a .230 clip while the Lady Choctaws posted a .165 for the three-set match.
After dropping the first set 25-18, the Blue and Gold held close in the second set before being edged 25-22 heading into the intermission. MC rallied back in the final set forcing deadlocks during the final points, but the Lady Choctaws couldn't topple UAH and were nipped 27-25.
Anna Claire Johnson led the Chargers with 14 kills while Kirsten Giles dished out a team-best 35 assists. Haley Hop paced the defensive effort for the Blue and White with 10 digs.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 as it hosts the University of North Alabama. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
