CLINTON, Miss. --- Following two, tightly contested, Gulf South Conference affairs over the weekend, the Mississippi College volleyball team takes the road on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to face the University of West Alabama. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
MC (1-10, 0-3 GSC) was edged by Union in five sets on Friday and fell 3-1 to Christian Brothers on Saturday.
The Lady Choctaws are 4-9 against UWA all-time following a pair of setbacks last season. The two outings were the first in the series since 2003. The Blue and Gold took a game from the Tigers in the 3-1 match in Clinton and were swept in three games in Livingston. MC's last win in the series came on Aug. 31, 2002 at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
Mississippi College has received offensive production from a pair of freshmen and a sophomore. Freshman
Jenna Campbell leads with 79 kills on the season. Fellow freshman
Shelby Grace Mays has tallied 63 with 60 coming from
Kayana Mitchell.
Freshman
Bailee Berringer has helped set up the offense with a team-leading 177 assists. Sophomore
Sydney Chandler has added 142 on the campaign.
Defensively,
Pearson Bell,
Madison Kimes and Mays have each totaled 100-plus digs. Bell has registered 151 to pace the squad. Kimes has added 132 while Mays has totaled 119 on the team.
UWA (2-5) is riding a four-game losing streak heading into the midweek match, including three straight in GSC play. Briana Sandifer leads the Tigers' offense with 96 kills while Kimberly Hernanadez has collected 157 digs.
After the match in Livingston, Ala., Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 25 at West Georgia.
