CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College cross country teams got their 2015 preseason workouts started on Monday, August 17th at Choctaw Trails.
The men's and women's teams worked out at Choctaw Trails on Monday and Wednesday morning with long runs, while they had a two-mile time trial on the Natchez Trace on Tuesday.
"We've got a good team, a young team," said head coach
Butch Ard. "They did a lot of work over the summer. I think we need to do some more work to get ready for the season, but I'm excited about where we're going to go."
As the season goes on, the teams have a clear goal on what they want to accomplish this year.
"We've got a plan going toward the end of the season," Ard went on. "Of course we want to do well at the NCCAA national meet. I think we have a team that will do well. We're working through our system throughout the year to peak at the right time."
In order to stay out of the Mississippi heat and allow his teams to have a great college experience, Coach Ard thinks the team enjoys the early morning workouts.
"The older I get, the earlier it gets," said Ard. "We do that in the morning so they can come out here and it's cooler. When they finish their workouts in the morning, they can go be a student the rest of the day.
The Choctaws and Lady Choctaws open the 2015 season on Friday, September 4th when they host the MC Season Opener at Choctaw Trails at 5:00 p.m.
