BASEBALL PREVIEW: Spring Hill

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team will host Spring Hill College for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Frierson Field. First pitch for the twin-bill will be at 3:00 p.m.

The Choctaws (10-20) are coming off 13-8 win over Shorter on Sunday afternoon, salvaging the third game of a home Gulf South Conference series. Junior Caleb Upton went 2-fo-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam, six RBI and three runs scored.

The Badgers (20-9) swept a three-game series from Kentucky State over the weekend. The Badgers outscored their opponents 38-11 over the home games.

MC and Spring Hill have already played a doubleheader this season as the teams met in Mobile back on March 3rd. The Badgers swept the two games with a 4-1 win and an 11-5 victory.

With the opening game tied 1-1, Alex Jones drove in three runs with a bases loaded triple to give them the victory. In the second game, the Choctaws jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but SHC bounced back with 11 unanswered runs to complete the sweep.

Freshman Kyle Smith (.465) is the team's leading hitter, while sophomore Hunter Bolin (.378) is just behind and leads the team with nine stolen bases.

Upton leads the team with four home runs on the season and ranks 2nd with 23 RBI. Junior Hunter Hall leads the team with 25 RBI, while junior Colton Caver has a team-high nine doubles on the year.

Senior Jayme Monroe and junior Kyle Cumlander are probable starters on the mound on Tuesday. Monroe earned his first start two weeks ago, returning from surgery following last season, and he allowed six hits and two runs over 3.0 innings.

Cumlander tossed 5.0 innings, scattering nine hits with two earned runs in a start earlier this season against Spring Hill.

Taylor Eads (.570) leads the Badgers in hitting and is the team-leader in runs scored (46) and home runs (7). Alex Jones leads the team with 15 doubles and 39 RBI.
