LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Tartt Field.
The Choctaws (9-17, 2-15) fell in the first game, 12-1, before the Tigers (19-8, 12-5 GSC) clinched the three-game series sweep with a 10-0 win in the second game.
UWA wasted no time jumping out a big lead with five runs in the first inning of the first contest, highlighted by a three-run home run from Tanner Rainey, who finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in the game.
The Choctaws got a run in the third inning, when sophomore
Hunter Bolin drove in junior
J.C. Heflin with a single, cutting the lead to 5-1.
The Tigers would close the game with seven unanswered runs to close out the victory.
Junior
Colton Caver led the MC offense with two hits on the day. Freshman
Jake Fraze took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 hits over 4.1 innings.
In the second game, UWA got all the runs the needed with a two-run home run in the first inning by Mitch Holgate, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored in the contest.
Gandy Stubblefield and Neil Lambert combined to allow the MC offense just four hits. Junior
Taylor Olsen took the loss for MC, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs over 3.0 innings.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday at Frierson Field when they will host Belhaven at 6:00 p.m.
